பழு-த்தல்

பழு-த்தல் paḻuttal,    4. செ.கு.வி. (v.i.)

   1. பழமாதல்; to ripen, grow ripe, as fruits, grain.

     “பயன்மர முள்ளுர்ப்பழுத்தற்றால்” (குறள்,216.);

   2. முதிர்தல்; to grow mature, arrive at perfection as in knowledge, science, piety.

     “மற்பழுத்தகன்ற மார்பத்து” (சீவக.435.);

   3. மூப்படைதல்,

 to become old.

     ‘பழுத்த ஆள்’ (இ.வ.);

   4. பக்குவமாதல்; to become fit, as for salvation (w.);

   5. கைவருதல்; to be trained, to become experienced.

     “செந்நாச் சொற்பழுத்தவர்க்கும்” (சீவக.435.);

   6. பருமுதலிய முற்றுதல்; to suppurate, come to head as a boil.

     ‘சிரங்கு பழுத்துவிட்டது’

   7. மனங்கனிதல்; to melt, as heart.

     “பழுத்த மனத்தடியர்” (திருவாச.24,4);

   8. நிறம் மாறுதல்; to change colour by age, as ivory, horn, grain;

 to become pale or yellowish, as the body by disease;

 to be discoloured as the teeth. (w.);

   9. வெற்றியடைதல்; to become successful

     ‘மேற்கண்ட வேலை பழுத்தது’

   10. செழித்தல்; to prosper.

     “பல்கிய கிளைஞரும் பழுக்க வாழுநர்” (பிரமோத்.6,47.);

   11. மிகுதல்; to abound.

     “தொளிபழுத்த தண்பணை” (காசிக்.துருவ.11.);

   12. காரம் முதலியன கொடாமையால் (மகப்பெற்ற); புனிற்றீன்ற வயிறு பெருத்தல்; to become flably and weak, as the abdomen of a woman after-child-bith for want of stimulants.

   13. பழுப்பு நிறமாதல்; to take a fine brilliant colour. as gold, ret-hot iron.

   14. குழைதல்; to become flexible, plaint.

     “விற்பழுத்து” (சீவக.435.);

   15. செலவழிதல் (மரபுவழக்கு);:

 blow money on something.

     ‘மருத்துவரிடம் சென்றுவந்ததில் ஆயிரம் உரூபாய் பழுத்துவிட்டது’ (உ.வ.);
